Why Age Doesn’t Matter in Medical Sales (And What You Need Instead)

You’re about to hear one of the most inspiring stories we’ve shared.
Meet Shannon Holly. For 28 years, she was a successful morning radio host. She interviewed celebrities like Justin Bieber, was on air in New York City, and even won the Marconi Award, one of the biggest honors in radio.
But one day, Shannon realized something.
Even though everything looked perfect on paper, something was missing. She wasn’t feeling fulfilled anymore.
And at the age of 48, she made a bold decision.
She left it all behind and started over in a completely new industry.
“There’s More Out There For Me”
Shannon had dreamed of being in radio since she was a little girl. She made that dream happen and was incredibly successful. But after nearly three decades, she felt a shift.
She had always been drawn to helping people. Through her radio show, she raised over $7 million for children’s hospitals. And eventually, she wanted to do more than just fundraise.
She wanted to be in the room. She wanted to make a direct impact on people’s lives.
That pull led her to explore medical device sales.
“Am I Too Old To Start Over?”
Shannon asked herself the same questions many people do.
Can I start something completely new at this stage in life?
Will anyone take me seriously?
What if I fail?
She was used to hiding her age. In the radio world, staying young was part of the job. Talking publicly about being 48 felt scary. But she knew it was time to be honest.
And more importantly, she knew it was time to bet on herself.
So she did something most people would never dare to do.
She quit her job before she had another one lined up. No promises, no guarantees. Just pure belief that she was meant for more.
A New Life in Scrubs
Shannon joined the New to Medical Device Sales program, committed fully, and quickly landed a job with one of the biggest med device companies in the world.
In her first year, her team was awarded Region of the Year.
Today, Shannon is in surgeries nearly every day. In her first 7 months, she has already been part of 14 childbirths, brain surgeries, cardiovascular cases, burn treatments, and more.
She isn’t just standing in the corner. She is providing critical knowledge, helping surgeons make key decisions, and ensuring the best possible care for patients.
She is thriving.
“You Have To Leap Before You Feel Ready”
Shannon says the biggest growth came from getting uncomfortable.
In the beginning, she was nervous. She didn’t know everything. She had to learn how to read the room, understand hospital systems, and support surgical teams under pressure.
One moment that stuck with her was the first time she recommended a product to a skeptical surgeon during a major surgery. She explained why it was the best option, answered every question on the spot, and stood firm.
The surgeon listened. He used the product. And now he uses it in every surgery.
That moment reminded her that she was exactly where she was meant to be.
Final Thoughts
Shannon’s story is powerful for one reason. She proved that it is never too late to rewrite your life.
She walked away from success, trusted her gut, and now wakes up every day excited to go to work.
If you are in your 30s, 40s, or even 50s and wondering if it’s too late to start over, it’s not.
You don’t need to be miserable to make a change. You just need to feel ready for more.
Shannon said it best. Mature professionals are focused, committed, and hungry. That makes them phenomenal hires in medical device sales.
The only thing standing between you and the life you want is the belief that you can do it.
Shannon believed in herself. She put in the work. And now she’s living her second life in scrubs.
You can too.
