From Valet to $100k+ in Medical Device Sales at 23

Today I want to share a story that honestly sounds like it came out of a movie. It’s about Kyle Richardson, a 23-year-old who went from parking cars to landing a six-figure job in medical device sales.

Yep, you read that right. Just a year ago, Kyle was making around $40K as a valet. Fast forward a few months, and companies were literally asking him, “How much do we need to pay you to come work here?” Talk about a plot twist!

A Little About Kyle

Kyle grew up in Fountain Hills, Arizona and studied biomedical engineering at Arizona State University. At first, he thought engineering was his path, but soon realized he wanted more social interaction and freedom in his career.

That curiosity led him to start a small vending machine business. Running it made him realize he loved sales, finding leads, building relationships, and closing deals. Around that time, he stumbled across Jacob’s podcast about medical device sales. The idea clicked. He joined the program right after graduation, and the rest is history.

Why Medical Device Sales?

For Kyle, it wasn’t just about the money. It was about impact. Medical device reps literally help doctors save lives while also building a rewarding career. The mix of technical knowledge, strategy, and people skills was exactly what he wanted.

Within just over two months in the program, Kyle had multiple job offers. One company even raised their offer by $30,000 when he turned them down. Imagine being in your early 20s and having companies fight over you like that. Wild.

The Hard Part

Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Kyle admits the toughest part was getting used to rejection. Coming from engineering, where things are precise, it was tough to accept that most networking calls wouldn’t lead anywhere. But once he pushed past that, his mindset shifted.

He realized: it’s not about every single “no” — it’s about staying consistent until you get that “yes.” And when the yes came, it came in a big way.

Lessons Learned

Here are a few gems Kyle shared from his journey:

  • Mindset is everything. You’ve got to believe you’re worth six figures, even if you’re young or “inexperienced.”

  • Be coachable. Drop the ego and follow the process. That’s how you learn fast.

  • Play the long game. Sometimes the best offer isn’t the one with the highest starting salary. Reputation, training, and future opportunities matter more.

  • Embrace the hard stuff. Interviews, rejection, self-doubt — they’re all part of the process. The harder it is, the more rewarding the win.

Final Thoughts

Kyle’s story is proof that you don’t need years of sales experience or a fancy background to break into medical device sales. What you do need is drive, the right guidance, and a willingness to push through the tough parts.

At just 23, Kyle went from making $40K parking cars to over $100K with one of the top companies in the world. That’s not luck, that’s preparation, mindset, and action coming together.

So if you’ve been doubting yourself or thinking it’s “impossible,” let Kyle’s journey be the reminder you need: it is possible. You just have to bet on yourself and go all in.
